1. Who we are
Squawk ("we", "us", "our") provides the Squawk social Service at app-squawk.com and related mobile apps. This Privacy Policy explains how we process personal data when you use Squawk.
Contact for privacy requests: support@app-squawk.com
We aim to handle personal data in line with applicable United Arab Emirates requirements, including principles reflected in UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data (PDPL), where it applies to us, and other laws that may apply to your use of the Service.
2. Scope
This Policy applies to personal data we process through Squawk on web and mobile. By using Squawk, you acknowledge this Policy. Our Terms of Service also apply.
3. Data we process
Depending on how you use Squawk, we may process:
- Account data — email address, username, password (stored in hashed form via our auth systems), full name, country, gender, date of birth, profile photo, bio, and similar profile fields you provide.
- Content — posts, flight posts, captions, photos, videos, comments, reactions, messages, tags, locations you attach, and other content you upload or create.
- Security & device data — sign-in events, approximate device identifiers used for new-device / new-location alerts, IP address (or similar network identifiers), approximate city/country when available, user-agent / app version, and basic diagnostics needed to run and secure the Service.
- Optional location — precise or approximate location when you allow it (for example, map "go to my location" or security alerts). You can refuse device permission; some features may not work fully.
- Support communications — messages you send to support@app-squawk.com or through in-app support forms.
Gender and date of birth are collected for account purposes and are not shown publicly on your profile to other users.
4. Why we process data (purposes)
We process personal data to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you.
- Provide feed, posts, messages, Radar, map, weather, and related features.
- Protect accounts (including emails about new devices or locations and verification steps for sensitive changes such as email change).
- Respond to support requests and enforce our Terms.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from competent authorities in the UAE or elsewhere where required.
- Improve reliability, safety, and performance of the Service.
5. Legal bases / consent
Where UAE PDPL or similar rules apply, we process data based on one or more of: your consent; performance of a contract (providing Squawk to you); our legitimate interests in operating a secure social platform (balanced against your rights); and legal obligations.
Where we rely on consent (for example, certain device permissions), you may withdraw it in device settings or by contacting us, without affecting processing already lawfully carried out.
6. We do not sell your personal data
Squawk does not sell your personal data to others for money.
7. Sharing with 3rd parties
We use 3rd parties to help run Squawk (for example: hosting, databases, authentication, email delivery, maps, media storage, and similar infrastructure). These 3rd parties process data only as needed to provide their services to us and under confidentiality and security obligations appropriate to the service.
We do not name those vendors in this Policy. We may also share data if required by law, court order, or competent authority, or to protect users, Squawk, or the public from harm or illegal activity.
8. Public vs private information
Content and profile fields you set to public (or that are public by default for your account type) may be visible to other users and, in some cases, to people who visit public pages. Private accounts and private fields are treated according to product settings. Messages are intended for participants in the conversation, subject to moderation and legal requirements.
Squawk does not guarantee that other users will keep shared content confidential. Do not share anything you are not comfortable making visible under your settings.
9. User content and prohibited material
We do not operate a complete proactive filter on all comments or posts. You are responsible for what you upload. Content that violates our Terms (including nudes, abuse, and illegal material) may be removed and may lead to account bans, as described in the Terms.
10. Retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above, including security, backups, legal compliance, and dispute resolution. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal data associated with it within a reasonable period, except where retention is required or permitted by law.
11. Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal data (including encryption in transit where appropriate and access controls). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for protecting your password and device.
12. Your rights
Subject to UAE PDPL and other applicable law, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection to certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. To exercise these rights, email support@app-squawk.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
You may also request account deletion through Squawk settings where available.
13. Children
Squawk is for users 15 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 15. If you believe a child under 15 has created an account, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
14. International processing
3rd parties that help us operate Squawk may process data in countries other than the UAE. Where required, we take steps designed to protect personal data in line with applicable law when it is transferred.
15. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date on this page. Continued use of Squawk after an update means you acknowledge the revised Policy, except where additional consent is required by law.
16. Governing law
This Privacy Policy is intended to be read together with our Terms. Disputes relating to privacy and the Service are handled under the dispute and governing-law provisions in the Terms (United Arab Emirates law; binding arbitration as described there), to the extent permitted by mandatory UAE law.
